TRAINS: SFCM will host two separate hobby train displays all weekend, including a hands-on electric train demonstration where families can build dioramas and backdrops and set the trains en scene. The realistic HO gauge holiday trains will be going full steam inside the museum. Meanwhile, SFCM's Nature Center will be transformed into a bustling O gauge train switchyard where visitors of all ages will find something to touch. And visitors from New Mexico's real train world will be on hand to share their talents and experience.
Free rides from the Rail Runner to SFCM all weekend on the Santa Fe Pick-Up! So you might as well...
Ride a real train with a special guest: On Saturday, December 10th, the hoary, red-clad joy bringer will be aboard the Rail Runner Express, visiting each train car to have his picture taken with kids. The familiar guest will arrive at the Santa Fe Depot at 11:14 a.m. At 12:14 p.m., he will leave Santa Fe and take the Rail Runner back to Downtown Albuquerque.
TOYS: SFCM is having a Toy Sale on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10 to benefit the museum's programs and exhibits. Items will include DONATED toys, books, games, and puzzles. The PRE-SALE with special treasures will be on Friday, December 9 from 4-6 p.m. Admission to the pre-sale is $5 per adult. SFCM Members receive free admission to the pre-sale. The FREE daytime sale will be on Saturday, December 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To donate new and gently-used items for the Toy Sale, please bring items to the museum. DONKEYS: SFCM proudly partners once again with The Santa Fe Concert Association to bring holiday music and a magical, glorious performance of The Donkey's Dream to the museum on Saturday, December 10 starting at 2 p.m. Music performed by SFCA's young EPIK Artists.
IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE EVENTS...
The Cell Motion BioBus, a high-tech scientific lab on wheels, will be arriving in Santa Fe and open to the public at SFCM on Saturday, December 10 from 3-6 p.m. The BioBus was founded in August, 2007 by Ben Dubin-Thaler, only weeks after he presented his Ph.D. thesis on how cells move. Turning down a number of job offers, Dr. Ben pursued his dream of building a vehicle for bringing hands-on science education to communities that rarely have such opportunities. After purchasing a 1974 San Francisco transit bus, Dr. Ben created the BioBus, boasting an array of advanced scientific equipment. For more information about the BioBus, check out www.biobus.org
AND, SFCM will have a special book-signing of The Christmas Village on Sunday, December 11 from 2-4 p.m. Come meet local author Melissa Ann Goodwin as she introduces us to her first children’s novel, The Christmas Village. Twelve-year-old Jamie Reynolds wished that he could live in Grandma's miniature Christmas village, and now that wish has magically come true. But is the village really what it seems? What stunning secrets does it hold? And how will Jamie ever get back home? Join the fun, come along on the adventure, and find out more.
